2011

A Studio Bursary awarded by the Crafts Council of Ireland allowed me to take up residence in The Laois Arthouse and explored group collaborations with artists from different media resulting in ‘The Honeycomb Project’ realised as a light installation in Electric Picnic

Pat Byrne, Karen Hendy, Laura Byrne, Helena Malone, Vera McEvoy and myself were all artists with studios and in 2011 we collaborated on a light installation for the Electric Picnic 2011.  We called it the HoneyComb Project as a reflection of many people coming together as artists and the wider community to create. This installation took about five months of planning and experimentation.  We wanted to use recycled material and went to the local recycling centre for the plastic bottles.  Construction and design started in August with members of the local youth club and some of the adult workshop members on 2011.  It as a cube formation with a race against time to construct it onsite with leds so they would last the total length of the event. The result was on display in the main arena of Electric Picnic and rumour has it someone was proposed to there during the picnic!
